Team Day: How the Best Get Better with Mark Sanborn

It’s not very often that you get to meet one of your favorite authors, let alone have him come and spend time with your team! Well, we got the opportunity to do that and then some. Our team has been going through the Fred Factor workbook and video series and after we (Erika and Steven) got the opportunity to meet and (I can’t believe I’m saying this) befriend Mark, we asked if he would come to town and work with our team. AND HE SAID YES! With a client list of over 2400, many being heavy hitters such as Costco, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, FedEx, Harley-Davidson, Hewlett Packard, Cisco, KPMG, Morton’s of Chicago, New York Life, RE/MAX, ServiceMaster, ESPN, GM, IBM, Avnet, Sandvik and John Deere, we were beyond honored that he would share some of his time with us.

We could go on and on about Mark‘s accomplishments but some of the highlights are that Mark is a member of the Speaker Hall of Fame. He was honored with the Cavett Award, the highest honor the National Speakers Association bestows on its members, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the speaking profession. Mark is also a member of the exclusive Speakers Round table, made up of 20 of the top speakers in America. Mark is the author of The Fred Factor and The Potential Principle and many more amazing books that you probably want to go purchase right now (click the title to shop for them via Amazon).

In the short two years (and yet it seems like a long time) that we have had the absolute pleasure to get to know Mark, we have learned that he has a genuine want to help others grow. He is a fountain of knowledge and that if he is speaking, you will want to listen because there is absolutely some nugget (or maybe just a hilarious story or joke) that you will want to remember. While we were a small client for Mark, he didn’t make us feel that way. He made us feel like we were the most important people that he was speaking to and if that doesn’t show just how genuine he is as a person, I don’t know what does.

Now, back to the time that our team spent with Mark. Our Pastor, Pastor Daren Carstens, was kind enough to host us in the Coffee Shop at our church (Enjoy Church). We started the day with breakfast because have you ever tried learning on an empty stomach? We then set in to a day full of knowledge and learning (and a lot of laughter). As our team tends to do, they dug right in and were interactive and taking lots of notes. Have we mentioned lately how we have the best team there is?

Our entire goal as business owners is to grow our people, as Mark said, “Erika and Steven would have something to brag on each one of you when they were getting ready to introduce me to you”. That is one of the truest statements we’ve ever heard but, honestly, our people are so great that we didn’t even realize we were doing it! There’s no room for mediocrity, bad attitudes, or lack of sense of humor here. We’re always striving to learn more and do better and we did just that with the help of Mark Sanborn. We are so proud of this team and our people and we will do anything in our power to make sure that they are not just a successful member of our team but as members of the community and in their family as well.

Above is a picture of us (Steven & Erika) with Sprinkles and a really epic childhood picture of our first Fred of the Month, Cole! We’ll explain more on that later!
