This Sunset Hills backyard was transformed into a luxury woodland retreat featuring a custom timber pavilion, outdoor kitchen, stone patio, and integrated water feature designed for upscale outdoor entertaining and immersive natural living.
Project Overview
This project was designed to transform a wooded backyard into a private outdoor retreat where the homeowners could cook, entertain, relax, and connect with nature in a luxury setting. The goal was to create a lodge-inspired outdoor living environment that felt seamlessly integrated into the forested landscape while offering the comfort, beauty, and functionality of a high-end outdoor destination.
Every element was thoughtfully designed to blend architecture with the surrounding trees, create multiple gathering spaces, and provide a refined yet natural outdoor lifestyle experience.

Timber Pavilion and Covered Outdoor Living Space
A custom timber-frame pavilion was built to anchor the outdoor living area and create a dramatic, lodge-style covered space for dining and entertaining. The exposed wood beams and architectural lighting provide warmth and character while offering shade and weather protection. The pavilion was designed to feel like an outdoor great room, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the space comfortably during sun, rain, and cool evenings while maintaining a strong connection to the natural surroundings.
Custom Outdoor Kitchen Built for Entertaining
At the heart of the pavilion is a fully custom outdoor kitchen built with natural stone masonry and premium countertop surfaces. Designed for hosting and serious outdoor cooking, the kitchen includes built-in grilling equipment, expansive prep space, and bar seating for guests.
The layout allows the homeowner to cook while staying engaged with friends and family, making it ideal for gatherings, casual dinners, and weekend entertaining in a scenic outdoor setting.
Stone Patio and Naturalistic Water Feature
A custom stone patio extends from the pavilion, creating a seamless transition between the covered structure and the surrounding landscape. Integrated into the design is a naturalistic water feature that adds movement, sound, and a tranquil atmosphere, enhancing the resort-like feel of the space.
The combination of stonework and water elements creates a calming outdoor environment that feels intentionally designed around the existing terrain and trees.
